The Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program is a fully accredited professional degree designed to prepare students for a wide range of pharmacy careers. The Pharm.D. is offered in-person on the OU Health Campus in downtown Oklahoma City and takes four years to complete.

As the medication experts on the healthcare team, pharmacists are among the most trusted and accessible professionals in the medical field. With a Pharm.D. degree, graduates can pursue countless paths like providing patient care in hospitals, managing chronic diseases in ambulatory care clinics, owning a community pharmacy, or working in government, academia, or the pharmaceutical industry.

While studing on the OU Health Campus, students benefit from interprofessional collaboration and access to one of the few comprehensive academic health centers in the nation. The OU College of Pharmacy consistently boasts NAPLEX first-time pass rates above the national average, degree options and specialty tracks, a dual Pharm.D./MBA pathway, and the only college of pharmacy with a fully operational onsite nuclear pharmacy. We also offer a non-resident tuition waiver for all accepted out-of-state students. Curriculum

The curriculum features the integration of basic and applied clinical sciences across for a total of 149 course hours. First year courses provide a strong foundation of basic science coursework and an orientation to pharmacy practice.

Beginning in the fall of second year, a series of pharmaceutical care course modules, organized around organ systems and disease states, provides integrated learning opportunities in pathophysiology, pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, pharmacotherapeutics, pharmacokinetics, and Pharmacoeconomics.

In addition to the integrated pharmaceutical care modules, students in the second and third professional years complete courses in areas related to drug information systems, pharmacy and health care management, pharmacy law and ethics, communications, and the application of advanced practice skills.

In the fourth year, students complete nine (five required, four selective) one-month rotations in a 12-month period.

There are five degree options and specialty tracks available for students to tailor their pharmacy education to their interests, as well as a dual Pharm.D./MBA degree.

Additionally, intern practice hours are built into the curriculum to meet licensure eligibility upon graduation, and these hours are managed within the College by our dedicated Experiential Office team.

Admission Requirements

The University of Oklahoma College of Pharmacy (OUCOP) application is available through PharmCAS.org. To be eligible, applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and a minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0. Please note that OUCOP does not recognize academic forgiveness or bankruptcy policies when calculating overall GPA. Additional GPA evaluations include Science/Math, Biology/Chemistry, and the last 60 credit hours.

Applicants must complete at least 64 semester hours of specific prerequisite coursework from a regionally accredited college or university, earning a grade of C or better (C+, C, or C- are accepted):

  • Calculus – 3 hours
  • Physics – 3 hours
  • General Chemistry I with Lab – 4 hours
  • General Chemistry II with Lab – 4 hours
  • Organic Chemistry I Lecture – 3 hours
  • Organic Chemistry II Lecture – 3 hours
  • Organic Chemistry Lab – 2 hours
  • Biological Sciences – 8 hours
  • Microbiology with Lab – 4 hours
  • English – 6 hours
  • Electives – 24 hours

Applicants must successfully complete the perquisite course requirements by June 30th of the year they play to enter. 

CLEP, IB, and AP credit are accepted if reflected on a college transcript, along with online and Pass/Fail coursework, provided all requirements are met.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents at the time of application. Foreign coursework may be accepted with a WES course-by-course evaluation, subject to approval by the college.

Holistic Admissions Process

OUCOP utilizes a holistic admissions review, meaning both academic and non-academic factors are considered. Eligibility for an interview is based on a comprehensive evaluation of an applicant’s GPA (prerequisite, overall, science/math, biology/chemistry, and last 60 hours) as well as their experiences and personal attributes. Competitive applicants demonstrate strength across all areas—not just academic performance.

Qualified applicants will be invited to a live admissions interview. Successful interviewees may receive conditional admission to the program.

The OU Health Campus maintains genomics, proteomics, microscopy, and cytometry core facilities equipped with many of the newest pieces of technology to advance research. 

As compared to other graduate programs, graduates from the Program in Pharmaceutical Sciences are uniquely suited for careers catering to drug research and development such as pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, and government regulatory (FDA, CDC).
